F. A. Q. S: What You've Always Wanted to Know...And Should Know

                                                                                                      Questions

Q: What makes BCF different from other film production companies?

A: Our unique business model of hands-on involvement from story development, pre-production, production, post-production, marketing and distribution is what sets BCF apart in every aspect.

First, we provide perspective new partner writers with an initial in-depth interviewing session to assess their vision, goals and objectives as a career writer.

Also, we provide professional coaching and creative consultations to ensure that a writer's story material is properly developed in the development phase, and navigated to the pre-production phase for budgeting and film project fundraising. Then onward to production!

Finally, because we are writers too...we understand the challenges out there of trust and competence. Therefore, our founding principles are FAIRNESS and SOUND business ethics and practice like no-other!

Q: Who do we work with?

A: BCF works with independent self-published writers not represented by
literary agents.

Q: What are the six phases of filmmaking?

A: The core six phases of filmmaking are:

Development (story treatment/outline & scripting)

Pre-production planning (breaking-down the script for budgeting purposes, casting requirements and film crew personnel requirements, equipment and locations, number of days/nights of actual shooting etc).

Production (shooting of the film begins, also called principal photography.)

Post-Production (editing of shot scenes and sequences, sound-mixing, music mixing, visual affects, graphics & titles, coloring and configuration of the industry standard audio and visual digital ratios aka (digital cinema package/ DCP);

Marketing (movie posters, post cards, promo trailer, submission to film festivals, public interviews, personal appearances, public screenings and forums w/ Q & A's, meet & greets, promotional tours etc.) Also, remember to have many Still shot photos of your shoot.

Distribution (attending film festivals to screen film, which is seen by domestic & foreign movie distribution representatives. This is HOW YOUR FILM GETS PICKED UP AND SOLD FOR WORLDWIDE DISTRIBUTION AND SEEN AROUND THE WORLD!!!

Q: How do we select potential projects?

A: First, we announce a 'CALL FOR MATERIAL' which is usually a request to receive your BEST story outline aka story treatment. Your material is reviewed and you will be contacted as to the next steps to take. We do not accept any unsolicited material. Please refer to our website page for material submissions and requirements.

Q: Will I have to sign any legal documents?

A: Yes. All selected writers of material will be required to sign our industry standard documents, which consist of the following: Confidentially Agreement; Writer/Author Questionnaire; Option Agreement; Purchase Agreement and a Library of Congress Copyright form and other standard forms as necessary.

Q: How will I be compensated?

A: As a writer, you will be compensated according to your level of writing experience and your overall writing popularity and writing credits. Our compensation mirrors that of SAG/AFTRA, in structure, but at lower compensation levels, and it depends upon whether or not your particular project meets a signatory industry standard level, meaning hired non-union talent, hired non-union film crew and budget requirements etc. Please note, that every film project may not meet a SAG/AFTRA Union standard according to budget size requirements and personnel involved etc. BCF's projects will eventually become Union projects in the future as we grow in the industry, and as other specific internal company benchmarks are met.

Q: What "RIGHTS" to my story do I keep?

A: Working with BCF as a partner with us, YOU will RETAIN/RESERVE all of your intellectual property rights as the owner to your material. The only rights that you grant to us are the 'exclusive permission rights' for BCF to produce your scripted material/story into the visual medium of a motion picture movie. This means, that you grant BCF the 'exclusive permission rights' to 'Option' your scripted story, and also, that you allow BCF to purchase the right to produce your scripted story. You as the Copyrighted owner of the scripted material will retain/reserve all other rights, to use the material to produce theatrical stage-plays, radio productions, internet platform productions, books/novels and/or documentaries.

Q: How long will it take on average for my story to become an actual movie?

A: Here's an approx time line: You should be able to write a completed story outline/treatment (after you've conducted story research) in about 30-days. Next, the first rough draft of your script should take approx 30-to-45 days or less. The second draft of your script should take approx 30-to-45 days or less. Finally, the third and final script re-write should take place within approx 30-days or less. It is realistic to have a finished and polished script written in 90-to-135 days or, but you must stick with it...if not you loose time.

The point here is that, with each initial re-write, your story is becoming leaner and tighter, until you feel that you have a polished version ready to take to the next phase for budgeting. Also, this means that you must place yourself on a WRITING SCHEDULE and stick to it until the story is completed.

The budget drafting phase will take approx 30-days. The fundraising aspect of the project should take approx 45-days. The pre-production phase in all, should take approx 6-weeks, which includes pre-production meetings and cast rehearsals etc.

The actual production phase will depend on the script (i.e. what time during the year the story takes place). This means, that if your story takes place during the Spring or Summer period, and its now Fall, we have to wait until the Spring or Summer comes around. However, during that time, we're busy working on accomplishing everything above, so by the time Spring or Summer comes...we'll be ready to shoot!

Q: What will I be expected to do?

A: As a writer you will be expected to sign our agreements, begin and complete your story outline, start the scripting process and complete it in a timely manner. It's EASY to do, but it will take your FULL COOPERATION, DEDICATION & COMMITMENT every step of the way. Finally, you must be open to our coaching and consultation...we want you to SUCCEED.

Q: What role will I play in the publicity and promotional phase of the movie?

A: As the writer, you will play a MAJOR ROLE! You will participate in all forms of publicity and promotions (radio, TV interviews), public/private screenings and Q &A sessions, Meet & Greets etc. People love seeing, meeting and hearing from the original writer of stories, and you'll love meeting and sharing your creative insights and inspiration with your audience, while you're helping to promote the movie along side of the actors, the director and producer. ITS YOUR MOMENT TO SHINE!!!
